Minimalism

Not by choice, but I like it

Minimalism as necessity

My brain can’t hold information, and whatever it can hold cannot be recalled reliably when I need to. I operate in intuitive flashes. So when it comes to simplifying, reducing, simmering, evaporating code it becomes a necessity.

If I can’t do that, I can’t operate. There are people that are able to operate with thousands of different crazy (un-)documented edge cases. I can’t.

I think my brain has optimized for this over time and I think it’s the reason it is decently good at navigating the trade-off line.

Minimalism as aesthetic sense

I think the requirement of my brain to simplify and reduce has infected other areas of my life and I’ve developed a taste for it. While many years ago my brain was stimulated by very complex music (it still is). I’ve come to tend towards very simple (but not formulaic) music.

For me the music that better exemplifies that is Shakuhachi music. Minimalistic, you can’t hide.

You can’t hide, I think this is the aesthetic sense summarized. You can’t hide bad ideas in a sea of complexity.
